QuickCheck predicts your future

Our financial wizards look into their crystal balls to predict if you’ll be accepted for a credit card.

Okay… maybe not. We do a pre-application check through the credit reference agencies.

But don’t worry, we only perform a soft search which doesn’t affect your credit rating!

And if we say yes, you can apply with confidence.

About the Ocean Credit Card

It’s a credit card that keeps things simple, straightforward and manageable. Plus, it comes with a credit limit that’s just right for you.

Like the sound of it? Great! Just so you know, you’re more likely to be accepted if:

  • You're 18 and over
  • You're registered on the electoral roll
  • You have a history of managing credit

This is just to give you an idea. Meeting the above criteria doesn't guarantee you'll be accepted.

Please borrow and spend responsibly.

Why is improving your credit rating a good idea?

A good credit rating is the key to better deals when applying for credit. If you have a bad credit rating, you could find it harder and more expensive to borrow.

By making your repayments on time and in full every month, you’ll boost your score over time. Not doing so could harm it. For even more tips and tricks on improving your credit rating, read our blog.

Common questions

Before you apply

What information does QuickCheck ask me for?

We just need some personal information about you, so we can confidently assess whether you’re likely to be approved for an Ocean Credit Card. On the application form, we ask you for your contact details, address, employment status and annual income. And you’ll be pleased to know it only takes two minutes to fill out.

How does QuickCheck work?

QuickCheck reviews your application with the credit reference agencies to see if you’ll be accepted before you apply. It only performs a ‘soft search’ against your name, which means no one else will see this on your credit report apart from you and it won’t affect your credit score – unlike a hard search.

I’ve got poor credit – does that mean I’ll be declined?

Not necessarily! Here at Ocean, we specialise in helping people with bad credit – and even though you may have been rejected by other lenders, it doesn’t mean you’ll be rejected by us.

Use QuickCheck to see if you’ll be accepted before you apply – it doesn’t have any impact on your credit score.

What’s the maximum credit limit?

Your credit limit could be anywhere between £200 and £1,500 – and the amount you’re offered is decided from your personal and financial information. We ensure the credit limit you receive is easy to manage and just right for you. And don’t worry, even if you don’t get the amount you wanted initially, we do credit limit reviews twice a year.

How long will it be until I get my card?

We know it’s exciting when you get accepted for an Ocean Credit Card, and you won’t have to wait long for it to arrive. It’ll take seven to 10 days for the card to drop on your doorstep.

And just so you know, your PIN will come first. This is sent in a separate letter for security reasons, so please keep a look out for it!

Once you have your card

I want online banking – how do I register for it?

You will receive an email from Capital One with your online account information and how to access it once your account has been created.

What can I do on my online account?

Your online account allows you to:

  • View statements
  • Browse your latest transactions
  • See your current balance
  • Contact Capital One through the secure message facility

You can login to online banking by clicking here.

What are the benefits of the app?

Where do we start…? The app makes managing your finances super simple – giving you control of your account whenever and wherever you are.

On it, you can:

  • See your current balance
  • Check your credit limit
  • View your latest transactions
  • Find out when your next payment is due and the amount
  • Make a payment to your credit card

Download it today from The App Store or Google Play. It’s free to use!

How does contactless work?

The contactless feature is fast, easy and super convenient. It allows you to pay for something on your card up to £30, without entering your PIN.

Just look out for the contactless symbol at the tills, place your card over the reader, and wait until your payment is approved. Done.

How can I pay my credit card bill?

Okay… so there are four ways to do this.

1) By Direct Debit

This is probably the easiest way to make payments, as it’s automatically taken out of your account every month. To set up a Direct Debit, sign into your account online, click ‘Pay Bill’, select ‘Set Up/Amend Direct Debit’ and then follow the instructions.

2) Online or through the app

To do this, log in to your account online, select ‘Pay Bill’ and enter the amount you wish to pay. Please note, we’ll need your debit card number, expiry date and security code to process the payment. And why not save your details to make future payments quick and easy?

3) In-store at a bank

If you prefer to do business face-to-face, you can go to any UK bank and complete the payment there. You’ll need your full statement, including your payment slip and payment.

It’s important to note you could be charged for this service if you go to any other bank than your own.

4) Internet banking, telephone banking or standing order

You can go through your own bank to make a payment to your Ocean Credit Card. Whether this is done through internet banking, telephone banking or a standing order is up to you.

Whichever you choose, the payment needs to be sent to Capital One’s bank. Their account details can be found on your monthly statement.

With ‘faster payments’, your payment will reach your Ocean Credit Card account on the same day if received before 5.30pm. After this time, it’ll be registered on your account the next day.
